Dr. Michael C. Threatt
Dr. Michael C. Threatt is a licensed REALTOR® with Community 1st Real Estate in Dothan.
He is an executive-level affordable housing professional with over 16 years of experience
working within the real estate industry's public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Michael is also a
podcaster, consultant, coach, author, and developer. Michael is the Senior Vice President/ Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Dothan Housing where he is responsible for the day-to-day operations. He is not only a 16-year veteran of the housing
authority industry, but he also holds a doctorate in public administration from West Chester
University, with a dissertation on landlords in the Section 8 housing choice voucher program.
Michael has an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Alabama at
Birmingham and a master’s in criminal justice administration from the University of South
Florida. Michael created the “Housing Authority of Tomorrow” model that utilizes best and evidenced-
based practices to increase productivity and financial savings. His work in the field has earned
him the distinction of Executive Director of the Year for the state of Alabama in 2019, as well as
the Rural Leader of the Year Award for Alabama, Georgia, and Florida the same year.
Michael played an instrumental role in Dothan Housing winning the 2021 Best Practices of the
Year for the state of Alabama. In addition, he writes for several online publications, including the
PA Times, New Cities, and, most recently, the Business Journals Leadership Trust. Michael has
recently been named to the 2022 Top 100 in Real Estate Magazine.
Michael is a member of the National Association of REALTORS®, National Association for
Real Estate Brokers, National Association of Residential Property Managers, and National
Leased Housing Association. He is also a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
